Student Visa Intakes for Japan
Student visa intakes for Japan typically align with the academic calendar. Here are the main intakes each year;
1. April Intake (Main Intake)
- Application Period: September to November of the previous year
- Visa Submission: December to January
- Course Start: April (2 years)
- Details: This is the primary intake and offers the widest range of courses and opportunities
2. July Intake
- Application Period: January to March
- Visa Submission: April to May
- Course Start: July (1.9 years)
- Details: Smaller than the April intake, mostly for language schools and some specialized courses
3. October Intake
- Application Period: April to June
- Visa Submission: July to August
- Course Start: October (1.6 years)
- Details: Another popular intake, especially for language school students who missed the April intake

- Must be below 27 years of age.
- Must have completed more than 12 years of schooling.
- Must be a person who has passed the (G.E.C) Ordinary Level Exam
- Must be a person who has passed the (G.E.C) Advanced Level Exam
- Japanese language proficiency equivalent to JLPT N5/ NAT 5 level or who passed the Japanese language proficiency test JLPT N5/ NAT 5 or above.
- Those who are physically and mentally healthy and abide by Japanese laws and school rules.

Special Skill Worker (i)
- Period of stay: Renewed annually, every 6 months or every 4 months, for a maximum stay of up to 5 years in total.
- Skill Standards: Confirmed by exams, etc. (those who have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii) are exempt from exams, etc.)
- Japanese Language Level: Proficiency in Japanese language required in daily life and at workplace need to be confirmed by exams, etc. (those who have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii) are exempt from exams, etc.)
- Accompanied by family members: Basically, not permitted.
- Eligible for Support by Accepting Organizations or Registered Support Organizations.
- Foreigners must be over 18 years of age.
- Foreigners are able to change their workplaces in the same job category.
Special Skill Worker (ii)
- Period of Stay：3 years, 1 year or 6 months (renewable and no limitation to the length of stay)
- Exam：Skill Standards ONLY
- Accompaniment by Family Members：Permitted
- Permanent Residence：Possible
